Having a mental illness is not a sign of weakness.

Hey everyone,

Welcome back to crazy little things! I hope everyone is doing ok and if you are not well that is ok too because you don’t have to be ok all the time as you are only human. Well, that happy feeling lasted a whole 2 seconds! Isn’t it annoying when you are basking in the light with a sense of direction starting to appear on the horizon and then boom out of nowhere the light turns off. The sky above starts to crackle with anger and despair, as you look up to see the storm above you every sad and low feeling starts to rain down. Your tears get lost in the rain as you realize a battle is about to begin.
I didn’t see this low mood cycle coming because this time it was different. This time there was no warning because it is down to unfortunate things happening at the same time. There was no time to brace myself before the wind knocked me down so I will rest but I will not stop.

So that was a long way of saying I have had a fucking awful day and unfortunately it has had an effect on my mental health. The thing is, shit happens there is no escaping it but this is how we learn how to deal with things better and remember to care for ourselves in times where shit hits the fan.

So my tip of the day is –

Having a mental illness is not a sign of weakness

If there is one thing I truly believe is that anyone who deals with mental illness and mental health problems are warriors. The stigma attached to mental illness is down to ignorance and lack of understanding. We are warriors who have the scars inside and out to show the battles we have fought and won. Every dark day that has come our way we have overcome it.
Some of the kindest people I have ever met are people with mental illness who are willing to share their light during my dark days.
The battles are hard and painful and when it’s your own mind you are battling to take back control over, how is that weak?
To fight every instinct, how is that weak?
To want to get better and ask for help, how is that weak?
It was world mental health day yesterday but it is mental health day every day for people with mental illness, so if you need time to rest and be selfish because you are having a bad time with it that doesn’t make you weak either every warrior needs to rebuild their strength.
Think about it like this, if you are hungry you eat, if you are thirsty you drink if you are tired you sleep. So why should it be different if you are struggling mentally to take care of that need? Your mental needs are just as important as your physical.

Take care,

Vixxy Rose
